Laniakea, North Shore Oahu

Good day at Lani's!

Laniakea on a good north swell.

Laniakea, or Lanis, is a long right which can connect into a world-class wave for over 300 yards plus on the right North or Northwest swell. Other times it sections out dividing the break into several different take-off zones.

Finding Lanis is easy, when you leave Haleiwa going towards sunset, it is easily visible from Kam Highway, with lots of cars usually parked in the dirt across the street. The reason for the cars is Laniakea is a favorite spot of surfers driving over from town, and it's usually a bit crowded.

You can paddle out in the channel to to the lefts of the break between Laniakea and Himalayas, or the channel to the right of the wave next to Holton's. The Holton's channel is only there if it's smaller than 6 foot.

John Severson: "In this crowded world the surfer can still seek and find the perfect day, the perfect wave, and be alone with the surf and his thoughts."
