Respect the Locals and Conserve the Aina

Lets keep the surfing conditions in Hawaii beautiful: Sunset on the North Shore.

Hawaiian State Motto: "Ua Mau Ke Ea O Ka Aina I Ka Pono"
"The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness
"

"Respect"
Probaly the most important word in Hawaiian surfing. Respect for the land, the ocean and the people who grew up surfing here.

Rule #1: NEVER, EVER litter in Hawaii. There are no exeptions to this rule.

Rule #2: Respect the locals when surfing on the Hawaiian Islands. If you are visiting, paddle out with respect to the people already surfing there. Start your session on the inside section, work your way to the peak slowly. Hooting is cool, but if you paddle out with 3 friends to a crowd of 15, DON'T start hooting and screaming at your friends rides, at that point you are being a fr**king haole.

A smile and a friendly attitude can go far in a Hawaiian lineup. Start your session mellow, and leave mellow. If you discover a "secret spot," keep the secret to yourself.

Conservation:
Hawaii's surf spot are under constant attck from developers and other sources who seek to make a profit at the expense of our Hawaiian surf spots. Luckily we have organizations like Surfrider and Save Our Surf (SOS). Please support these organizations.

John Severson: "In this crowded world the surfer can still seek and find the perfect day, the perfect wave, and be alone with the surf and his thoughts."
